Rev. Dr. Ken Ramsey

The Rev. Dr. Ken A. Ramsey, was the District Superintendent of the Wesleyan District of The United Methodist Church from 2008-2012. Originally from Mt. Nebo, West Virginia, in Nicholas County, Dr. Ramsey began his ministry in 1980 on the Frenchton Charge in Upshur County and has also served at Bridgeport UMC (1986-1989), United Methodist Temple in Clarksburg (1989-1997), and at Wesley United Methodist Church in Morgantown (1997-2008). In addition to numerous preaching events across the country, he has engaged in an active teaching ministry as an Evangelism and Faith Sharing Seminar leader in ten different Annual Conferences and three countries. For a number of years he worked with the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church in their Faith Sharing Initiative. He served as Adjunct Faculty at West Virginia University teaching, Christology and Religious Studies and at United Theological Seminary in the area of Evangelism. Dr. Ramsey has also taught for seventeen years in the Appalachian Local Pastor’s School (ALPS) a program of theological education sponsored by the Red Bird Missionary Conference and Emory University. He teaches in the area of contemporary theology, Biblical preaching and interpretation, worship and the sacraments, and church leadership and administration. He spends at least one week a year working in this mission area. He is a frequent speaker at youth events, preaching mission, and special worship services in the West Virginia Annual Conference and other regions. Dr. Ramsey received his Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College (1984), his Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology of Emory University in Atlanta (1986), and his Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio (1991). He has two children, Jared, a 2011 MBA graduate of WVU, and Kristen, a nursing student at WVU. Married in June 2010, he and his wife Charlea have been residing in Buckhannon where she teaches math at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. He has published articles in the areas of evangelism and pastoral ministry, as well as a DVD series, entitled “Shaping and Sharing a Vital Faith.”
